Five minutes.
That is all they have going for them.
There may be two or three hours of
whining and crying and whimpering
and yet, when I open the door
and say, "Go outside, do your business,"
I get about five minutes of
unbridled, unimaginable energy
bursting as they run, full sprint,
around the yard in oblong shapes.
Then they stop chasing one another,
complete their necessary tasks,
and then come inside.
Then each of them,
spent from just a brief five minutes,
climbs into their dog beds to nap.

Thanks so much for your comment on my poem yesterday!
I love this doggy piece. It's funny how crazily energetic they are. Cats are quite naggy, too....never tired when they need to be.
