What If We Ran Out of Coffee?

I had a friend pose a similar question
to me the other day.

We came to the conclusion that,
    for some people,
coffee might be more precious than oil.

At least it seems that way for the workplace.

The mornings would slow,
more so than they do.

General demeanors would,
  for the caffeine-addicted,
suffer an increase in rage and decrease in civility.

And more people would want mid-morning naps.

Nobody would know last
weekend's football scores.

The office dishwashing machine would,
  at least in the mornings,
see a dramatic decrease in usage.

And this poem might never have been written.
