He looked out the window, and although
it was not snowing, the world still looked grey.
Fingers curled tighter around the cup of coffee
hoping to steal the warmth into frigid digits.
The wisp of steam hit the pane and left a delicate trace
lacing on and off with a cloud.
Returning to the mirror, he knotted the tie
that he had not worn in months.
Today was the start of a new beginning
but a small part of him wanted to stay in the warmth
of the house and avoid the challenge of learning something new.
