Behind the podium,
he stands, though from his perspective
he is in front, and the
two thousand viewers
are behind.
He looks out upon
the eager faces.
They have been waiting,
waiting for hours,
just to get in the door
and see him, hear
what he has to say.
He looks out upon
the eager faces.
There is a speech
written on notecards
transcribed from the
8 and 1/2 by 11 paper
that he originally used.
He looks out upon
the eager faces.
He decides, last minute
that what he has to say
is more important
than a prewritten
oratory.
He looks out upon
the impatient faces.
He shifts his weight
moving the stance
from one foot to stand
on the other
and speaks loudly.
He speaks to
the listening faces.
