In the heart of the forest,
(at least we called it a forest)
at the end of the dirt trail
that was interrupted
with staccato bicycle ramps
and past the beer cans
used by the older kids
on their motorcycles
there was a place
where the trees spread
a good ten to twelve feet
and branches, discarded
by the trees that had owned
them, had been collected
and set gently in a pattern --
two for support, several
reaching from ground to apex --
where the children could go
