Springtime in the Scrub

Dicot or monocot
always starting solid
before its destruction signals the start
of something breaking forth
like chicken from egg
or cichlid from its mother's mouth
a child, an infant, a babe
only this one without thoughts, without worry
no nervous system threatens this tot with depression
or boredom
just an innate, cellular desire to grow (GROW!)
and reach for the sky that will never be reached
when maturity is reached
at six inches or fifty feet
the cycle completes
and the seeds hit the earth like a hailstorm
