The Line Between Waking

Glue adheres the lids to
the front of the cornea. The
mind is arguing for a return
to bed, while telling the flesh to stop relaxing.

Even as the legs,
arms, torso all pull away
the strongest urge comes
from the smallest piece of skin with minuscule musculature.

"If I can't see you,
you don't exist!" are
the vain shouts at the world.
But coming without sound, they hold less surely.

And the buzz
strikes again, only
seven minutes since the last.
A final blow from the victor admits his defeat.
