I vs. I

I would say that I represent
your total lack of productivity
only in that I am comparing
my work against yours.

Some might even go so far
as to tell you that you are insignificant
and that you don't possess
even a single shred of talent.

Funny part about it is,
when you really look at
how we both perform
there is little difference.

Truly, how could there be?
Considering our volumes of
work are almost identical in
shape, size, and substance.

And it is really just a battle between
the two of us, not for
fame or fortune but for
time, and the ability to pursue what we must.

Truth is, I am really only productive when
you are not, and that's why
I tend to underestimate what it is
that you do all the time.

See, your work may not
mean anything to humanity
or the humanities, but
it certainly means something to a human.

Fueling these competing pursuits
seems rational at first glance
and you might even get away with
trying to find a balance.

Perhaps the best approach is for
us to try to unite against
a common enemy,
both the artist and the arduous joining in battle.

Who can we unite against?
Oh, we think we already know,
since you are the enemy of both
of our bodies of work.

Sure, you can make all the claims that
you always try to, like
"Without me, there would be no
energy for either of you to work."

You might even get away with
saying that it is only because we
overexert ourselves at our tasks that
you even exist and take up your third.

But we know, lazy last laggard
that in between each of our
tasks, you jump in, force us to stop whatever
it is that we are doing.

You, like a greedy swine, pushing
the brothers and sisters out
of the way for the best
shot at the prime slot for dining.

You shut all of our work down
prevent both art and industry
and for what? Just so you
can sleep and have the limelight.
