he walks down the long hallway
looking for the switch
the lights are still off
and he can't find the door
perhaps he needs the end
of the beginning
of your end to find
where he might be somewhere in the middle
spinning, spinning, the world moans
the darkness is there
why must it always be dark in the movies
when the monster is about to attack
somewhere a phone is ringing
a baby might be crying
and you have forgotten your way
the way that lies ahead
don't worry if the path is dark, my friend
don't fret about your inability to view your feet
so long as your legs propel you forward
you will not retreat
there's no defeat in the lies
there's no peace in the truth
and no passing in the night worth watching
blindness is sometimes the result of trying too hard to see
the only question left
before charging ahead
is whether or not
he first needs to turn around.
