He steps outside fully expecting
the air to strangle him rather than refresh
His shadowed and sheltered world
has been fully conditioned against the heat
It must have been days since he last set foot
out in the open, exposed, hiding from the sun
Trying as he might to avoid the rays
that cooked his already warm skin to a crispy red
Choking on the suspended droplets
of water hung in the air like a molecular tapestry
So with great surprise and wonder
he rushes back inside, frantic about the lack of planning
Only to emerge as quickly, with a coat.
