Sleepless again

So once again I am sleepless
sitting staring blankly at 2:23
waiting for the numbers to change
knowing it is 48 seconds away

the ticking of the clock is only a figment of
digital children
instant communication with everyone
no one seems to write

watching the numbers change
wondering how long it may take to write this poem
Wondering if I will still be awake when it is finished
knowing I must be

Four hours have passed
I am not asleep
the poem never finishes

Watching you sleep watching me in your thoughts
Dreams
Figments of your microwave society
never remembered

wishing I were
glad I am not
watching day by day
And still...sleepless
